Easy to Install. Improves Water Quality. Bulky September 3, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This little filter is very well thought out. There are three things that really stood out about it.
1. It is amazingly simple to install. I needed a pair of pliers to remove my old aerator but after that was off I put the new one one and attached the filter. Whole thing too about 6 minutes. Five minutes to find pliers and a minute to screw the new aerator on and install the filter housing. Easy-peasy.
2. We have nice tasting water in our town. It doesn't taste like chemicals or other forms of water nastiness. But it is amazing the difference in taste with this. It really does help. It is also much faster to get filtered water than from our fridge.
3. The silly thing is really bulky. It don't know who to get around this on their part, but it is really large. I have found to fill my big pot with water I have to remove it to fit the pot in the sink and then replace it. The little clips are easy enough to push in to get the filter off.
All and all I like it.
Great product finally a water filter worth buying September 2, 2010 I like how you screw in the top part and the whole unit clicks in place. Should of bought this one in the beginning. So far so good will give it 5 stars . If it gives me problems will update my review.
Just what I was hoping for! September 1, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In the box: 1. The silver-toned plastic apparatus you're expecting 2. One cartridge that goes inside it 3. Four adapters and accompanying washers, for different faucets 4. Instructions
I have never owned a Pur device before, though of course I've used them in other people's homes.
Adapter A worked for me, with my entirely standard and boring stainless steel faucet.
I found the unit a little confusing to open at first, in an "am I breaking this?" kind of way, but the pictures were good in illustrating the unit and the way I was supposed to turn the cover, and all was fine.
Cartridge in, cover closed, snap easily onto the faucet. Run for five minutes.
Minor point of confusion: how high the flow of water should be for that five minutes. But I put it at a low-medium rate, and I assume the five minutes are overkill anyway.
Our municipal water tastes funky, and I'm delighted to have this and the better tasting water. (It DOES taste better!)
Pros: 1. Clear instructions and easy installation.
2. Unit has multiple ways to get it out of your way. You can swivel it around easily and can also easily just pop it off the faucet if it's seriously in your way. (I gather that this is different from previous Pur designs, but have no first hand experience. The swiveling seems great and is definitely different from what I've seen before.)
3. There is a colored light that comes on to tell you the condition of the filter and when you need to change it. It starts out green and progresses through amber and red (they tell me... obviously, I haven't see this yet). The light seems enormously handy.
4. As you expect with a Pur, there's a handy switch to turn the filtering off when you don't need it. (E.g., for handwashing or dishes.)
Cons: 0. none yet observed. It's just what I was hoping for.
Notes: 1. I have seen Pur reviews with people complaining about slow water flow and/or the unit cracking early. Likely, if you are using this device, yes, you should use a slower flow for the filtered water. If you (try to use) too high a flow, you're likely increasing the pressure too much in the unit. 2. There's a one-year warranty on the main unit (30 days for the cartridges)... so you're probably covered anyway.
Improved replacement August 31, 2010 We ordered this as a replacement when our PUR faucet filter system leaked so bad we needed to replace it. We like this one much better because of the design and performance.
no leaks in more recent design August 31, 2010 I saw all the negative reviews on here and noticed that many of them were from a few years ago and many of them were due to poor construction of the filter hardware. I bought my PUR about 3 months ago and just came on here to buy my first new filter -- I thought I'd mention that the unit has not leaked at all since installation. I agree with those who saw that the clearance is affected by the unit, but with a goose-neck faucet you might find the filter hardware as intrusive.
Just thought I'd chime in and let people know that the newer design works well for us!
